Taking Care NOT “Treating”

I bet we all could say that we are not currently where we thought we would be at the beginning of the year, am I right? Who would’ve thought that our world would turn upside down and see so many places shut down? I know I didn’t think we would see these days.
But, it’s a good time for us to really cherish the moments and memories we get to make with our family members but also ourselves! What are you doing to take care of YOU?
It isn’t always easy for us to take care of ourselves as it is engraved in us as women to nurture others especially our family before ourselves. So, it often feels very foreign or wrong when we do things for ourselves without a reason. But, why do we need a reason to take care of ourselves? Why is it that as women we feel like we need to do something well in order to reward ourselves with a “treat,” instead of taking care of ourselves beforehand without the need to consider it a “treat”?
Taking care of ourselves is very important! It consists of our mental, physical and emotional selves! We should be taking care of ourselves and not looking for reasons needed to treat ourselves. You don’t need to do anything special or “well” in order to care for yourself! You need to be cared for by yourself not only by others. Oftentimes we forget that we need to do things for ourselves to keep us functioning, sane, happy and healthy.
If we take care of ourselves it creates a waterfall effect to those relationships around us! When we take care of ourselves and are happier, brighter and healthier we in turn start passing our energy to those we love. This makes us better wives, friends, mothers and daughters! When we take care of ourselves we will feel rejuvenated and refreshed in order to fully commit to taking care of everyone else.
Taking care of yourself looks different to everyone. Some people like to take some time out of their day to read a book or magazine, others like to open up one of their drawers and pull out some spa items like a face mask, nail polish or makeup. Other women may enjoy sitting outside and just drinking a cup of coffee or wine, while others may want to get a workout in.
Maybe it’s even a virtual photoshoot with me to take your mind off of all that’s going on in the world and give you a positive to look back on!
There is no right or wrong answer in regards to taking care of yourself. Take the time to listen to your heart and soul, it will tell you what you need! So, read that book, drink that coffee or wine, meditate, workout, go for a walk, watch your favorite movie, play your favorite game or book with your favorite photographer! Do whatever it is that YOU need to do to take care of yourself during this difficult time! And, remember you don’t need to have an international crisis going on to take care of yourself! You are IMPORTANT!
